When is baby supposed to do what? Many parents have this question. Parents often ask themselves, is my baby reaching his or her milestones in time? And when they think baby is not reaching the milestones, they go off to the doctor in a panic or start thinking that there is something wrong with their precious little angel.
Baby’s Developmental Milestone Chart
Hopefully this article will help a little. Babies are supposed to reach their milestones in time. However, each baby is unique and the uniqueness of the baby contributes to the pace at which he or she develops. For example, some babies start crawling at eight months. Others only start crawling much later, at eleven months and then a month later they find themselves walking. Others don’t crawl at all.
Some babies will grip a cup or toy much faster than others. It is all in the developmental phase that the baby is in. And like we said before, not all babies develop at the same pace. Some areas of development will be slower and some areas of development will be faster.
When do you start worrying about a baby’s developmental milestones that are not reached?
When a baby does not smile, or does not respond to the parents at the age of 6 months, then there is cause for concern. A hearing test or mental test needs to be done. However, when a baby is not sitting by six months like your friend’s baby, don’t worry. Wait a month or three and if by then there is still a gap, then go see a specialist.
What about teeth? My baby can’t eat solids because of the teeth that have not appeared. All the other babies are eating solids.
Once again, no cause to worry. Babies who receive their teeth early loose their milk teeth early. Babies who receive their milk teeth late, loose their milk teeth late. If your baby is struggling to eat and you think that baby milestone of teething has not been reached, don’t worry. The teeth will come. Focus on cutting the food really fine. You will be surprised at how strong baby’s chewing is, even without teeth.
Milestones that are reached early is great. Milestones that are reached a month or two late is not a concern. Baby milestones that are reached four or five months later is a cause for concern.
