Diaper rash horror stories often do the rounds. Or perhaps, you have experienced a terrible diaper rash on your little one’s bottom that just would not go away. This often happens when baby is teething, or when the care giver has not changed the diaper often enough. Especially during diarrhea times. The question that many mommies ask is “How do I deal with this really bad diaper rash?”.
There are many really nice creams on the market. Sudo Cream often helps with diaper rash, but it can be rather expensive. This will usually work, in combination with baby powder. I always recommend corn starch powder. The way to apply it would be to first rub baby’s bottom with some corn starch powder, then apply the cream and after that, apply another layer of powder before closing the diaper.
But what if you simply cannot afford to try out every single diaper rash cream on the market? Some cheaper, alternative solutions to sorting out a red bottom diaper rash is to simply use normal corn starch that you use to cook with instead of baby corn starch powder. It is basically the same thing, minus the scent.
Instead of diaper cream, you can mix corn starch with extra virgin coconut oil. This makes a nice paste that can be applied to baby’s bottom. Just make sure the coconut oil is not too hot and have cooled down but is still liquid. When the paste hardens, you can soften it in the microwave for a couple of seconds, just like you would do with butter. It has done wonders for my baby. And of course, lots and lots of fresh air on the bottom will sort out a diaper rash very quickly!
